Who we are
Sonia M. Stace

Sonia is willing to see you, or the children and young people in your care, about any of your concerns. She is a Justice of the Peace, an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker, a Registered Art Therapist, an Approved Counsellor for Victims of Crime and Injured Workers, and a Non-Directive Pregnancy Support Counsellor. 

Currently in her mid 40s, Sonia has had over 8 years experience as a social worker with Community Services. During this time she worked in Joint Investigation Response Teams (JIRT) as a manager, investigator, caseworker and educator; the Child Protection Helpline After Hours Crisis Response Team as a manager and caseworker; a Community Services Centre; the Domestic Violence Line; and also the Prevention and Early Intervention Policy Unit. 

Due to her professional experience of managing staff and undertaking clinical work, Sonia also currently provides supervision to professionals working in child protection and early intervention, mental health, and aged care. 

In 2009 Sonia completed her Master of Art Therapy, having undertaken her clinical internships at a private mental health hospital for adults - St John of God Hospital, Burwood (Allied Health) and at the Children's Hospital, Westmead (Psychological Medicine). Since then Sonia has been a locum at St John of God Hospital and has also been in private practice. 

Sonia works with people who have experienced traumas such as child sexual abuse, childhood neglect, adult sexual assault, physical assault, domestic / family violence, home invasion, and pregnancy resulting from sexual assault. 

Some of the counselling and psychotherapeutic ways in which Sonia may work with you or your children could include cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), non-directive counselling, interpersonal therapy, art psychotherapy, sandtray therapy, clay therapy therapeutic doll making, and play therapy. 

Sonia is an Approved Counsellor for victims of crime, so you may be able to access Sonia's services for free under the NSW Government's Approved Counselling Scheme. Further information about eligibility can be located on Sonia’s website.
