Sonia M. Stace
Sonia is a Justice of the Peace, an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker, a Registered Art Therapist, an Approved Counsellor for Victims of Crime and a Non-Directive Pregnancy Support Counsellor.
Sonia is in her early 40s and has had over 8 years experience as a social worker with Community Services. During this time she worked in Joint Investigation Response Teams as a manager, investigator, caseworker and educator; the Child Protection Helpline After Hours Crisis Response Team as a manager and caseworker; a Community Services Centre; the Domestic Violence Line; and also the Prevention and Early Intervention Policy Unit.
Sonia completed her Master of Art Therapy in 2009, having undertaken her clinical internships at a private mental health hospital for adults - St John of God Hospital, Burwood (Allied Health) and at the Children's Hospital, Westmead (Psychological Medicine). Since then Sonia has been a locum at St John of God Hospital and has also been in private practice.
Sonia has experience with:
- individuals, siblings, families and groups
- child, adolescent and adult mental health
- counselling victims of crime (particularly sexual abuse, assaults and domestic / family violence)
- non-directive pregnancy support counselling

- medical art therapy
- professional supervision (particularly for child protection, mental health, victims of crime and aged care)
Some of the counselling and psychotherapeutic ways in which Sonia may work with you could include cognitive behaviour therapy, non-directive counselling, interpersonal therapy, art therapy, sandtray therapy, clay therapy and play therapy.
Sonia is an Approved Counsellor for victims of crime, so you may be able to access Sonia's services for free under the NSW Government's Approved Counselling Scheme.
